Steamhaus have been selected by AWS to be a Well-Architected Partner

Steamhaus are now carrying out infrastructure reviews against the AWS Well-Architected framework.

The Well-Architected framework is a strategic program from AWS. It has been developed to help cloud architects build the most secure, high-performing, resilient, and efficient infrastructure possible for their applications. It includes strategies to help compare your workload against best practices, and obtain guidance to produce stable and efficient systems so you can focus on functional requirements.

Performing regular Well-Architected reviews provides a consistent & measurable approach for benchmarking AWS workloads against the framework and we’re one of just a handful of AWS consulting partners in Europe approved by Amazon to carry out these reviews.

Reviews are carried out by our accredited AWS Solutions Architects in a half-day workshop, where your AWS workload is benchmarked against the five key architectural pillars:

Operational Excellence

The operational excellence pillar focuses on running and monitoring systems to deliver business value, and continually improving processes and procedures. Key topics include managing and automating changes, responding to events, and defining standards to successfully manage daily operations.

Security

The security pillar focuses on protecting information & systems. Key topics include confidentiality and integrity of data, identifying and managing who can do what with privilege management, protecting systems, and establishing controls to detect security events.

Reliability

The reliability pillar focuses on the ability to prevent, and quickly recover from failures to meet business and customer demand. Key topics include foundational elements around setup, cross-project requirements, recovery planning, and how we handle change.

Performance Efficiency

The performance efficiency pillar focuses on using IT and computing resources efficiently. Key topics include selecting the right resource types and sizes based on workload requirements, monitoring performance, and making informed decisions to maintain efficiency as business needs evolve.

Cost Optimization

Cost Optimization focuses on avoiding unneeded costs. Key topics include understanding and controlling where money is being spent, selecting the most appropriate and right number of resource types, analyzing spend over time, and scaling to meet business needs without overspending.

Taking action on the recommendations for remediation is a vital part of the review process, so much so that AWS will provide usage credits to cover the cost of remediation activity when carried out by their authorised Well-Architected partner. This incentive from Amazon enables customers to benefit from improvements to their AWS workloads with no additional financial outlay.
